At a Seattle conference the Department of licensing and the State Patrol presented details for the new laws that will were to go into effect on January 1, 2009. This is the ignition-interlock law, state Representative Roger Goodman a democrat sponsored the bill in the Legislature.

This new ignition interlock law will help drivers who have been stopped for dui to keep their license or only loose it for a short time and in effect help to reduce the number of unlicensed drivers on the Seattle roadways. These motorists will need to apply for a special drivers license that will give them full driving privileges if they have an ignition interlock device installed in the vehicle to keep them from driving if they have been drinking. They will also be required to have special license plates on their vehicle. By the way should you require a great Seattle dui attorney may I suggest the firm of Blair & Kim, they are among the best Seattle dui attorney out there.

The new drivers license will cost the motorist $100 dollars, from these fees, $20 dollars will be put into a fund for drivers who can not afford the fees and there will be a $75 dollar monthly fee for the company of the ignition interlock devices. The driver will also need to have proof of auto insurance.

The length of time the driver will need to have the ignition interlock device on their vehicle will depend on how many times they have been arrested for driving under the influence. A first time dui offender will vary and can be as long as a year, the driver who has been charged with dui three or more times will comply to having the ignition interlock device on their vehicle 10 years. Seattle is very progressive in this respect. Lindsey Lohan could use this device.
