Some Celebs Checking out Costa Rica

Filed under: General news — Tags: — reelifefilmfestival @ 10:35 pm

Golfito is south of the Osa Peninsula on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast. It is interesting in that it has its share of expat residents and yet they seem to manage to keep their secret paradise for the most part, well—a secret. Even a few celebrities sometimes hang out here apparently. Great for a surf trip or a yoga retreat.
Golfito is a colorful little town, just what you might picture for an old banana port in a lovely tropical setting if you have a vivid imagination. What used to be the port for the United Fruit Company’s banana operation is now a quaint little town with homes sitting stilts at the water’s edge. There are a few hotels and restaurants and shops. But it is the port’s duty-free warehouses that are one of main draws here. In order to take advantage of the shopping you must register the day before—this way the town will receive your patronage at the hotels and other businesses. Every resident and tourist can spend $500 per every six months at the duty-free warehouses. As an aside if you are looking for a wonderul costa rica surf vacation or tour this is a good firm. They have some of the best surf camp, school and vacation packages available anywhere.

Many North American expats live in areas just outside of Golfito. One of those is Playa Zancudo, a small town with a few restaurants and hotels. The locals like the black sand beach for its great swimming. Playa Zancudo can be accessed by water taxi from Golfito, by the way. It is also a popular family beach, loved for its gentle surf and beautiful water. From Costa Rica’s capital, San Jose, you can catch a bus to Quepos. The park is just a few miles south of the town and you can catch a bus to the park. There are also flight into Quepos.
